Blessing or Cult?

Dear Ones,

The question has been asked about a certain group following a certain person’s ideas and practices. The question is whether it is a beneficial energy transfer or a cult. The answer is, of course, it depends. It depends on who is interacting with this group and these ideas and this energy, because you will make of it what you will, according to your temperament, your choices, your intentions for this lifetime, the lessons you have chosen to pursue, your karma and of course your free will.

As with anything, you might ask yourself, “Why am I attracted to this? What am I hoping to gain?” Most people get in trouble trying to gain something for themselves rather than for others, and trying to get somewhere the easy way, without effort or doing the work. This is why people fall flat and why things will get harder for you when you walk in this expectant manner.

In this particular instance – although it extrapolates to all instances – many people have given much money to persons of this type in attempting to receive a transmission which will bring them to enlightenment (or so they say). It is of course a fine idea, that enlightenment can be bought and sold in this way. The appeal of having someone simply lay their hands upon you and give you what you seek? Well, that is as old as being born human and the craving for the perfect parental experience. Which nobody ever receives.

Do not mistake the longing for the possibility of eradicating the longing. Why would you think the path to enlightenment – which is after all the sense of freedom gained only through liberation from attachment to the human condition of desire – can be found in this way? It is kind of funny, if you think on it. It is really, as presented in this and many other places, just a big cookie to keep your sugar cravings intact. This is not to say that there is no energy transfer available. But nobody can guarantee what you make of it. Every human (and many other beings on this planet and in fact far beyond) gives of energy and shares it with others. You can give someone a bad day just by looking at them in a certain manner, you know this, correct? You can make someone’s day better with a simple smile. (So, why wouldn’t you? The question is begged.)

So we would say, if you go looking for personal salvation – perhaps you are trying to escape this place, or the pain and suffering inherent in the human condition, and who can blame you? – if you go looking at any price for something you want so badly in this way, then a blast of energy could expose you to yourself and it might not be easy to handle or beautiful to see. It might make you crazy for a while, or depressed, or feel lost even more than you were. But it also could give you a jolt and you might feel a sort of hopefulness for a while, that there is some way for you to walk out of here on a cloud.

Maybe it would be useful to reflect for a while on what it is you came here to do, and whether or not your mission, as it were, is served most properly in the hoping for someone to touch you into enlightenment? Perhaps – and we speculate here – your work here is to do the very hard thing of being present with yourself and with others, in as loving a manner as you possibly can muster, which, granted, will not seem like much at some times. And perhaps in this way you will find that to crave is to feel sickness and to generate goodwill for yourself and all beings is truly the work at hand. (How many people wish for enlightenment without being truly willing to just love themselves as they are? How is that supposed to work?) And perhaps you will find that to look elsewhere is beside the point, and to look within your most sacred, pure and present heart (yes, that one right there, which you all too often discount) is really the most rewarding path of all. And maybe that will get you where you want to go.
